Beg (Haiku Circus)

“Beg beggars”, they quip

Ignoring the pleading eyes

Most walk by them.

Lost (Selection of Topic from Haiku Circus – Feb. 26th, 2015)

My lost life with you

dribbles past then surrounds me

,sinking down, drowning.

Simple Beauty in One’s Own Backyard

11082183_10205542225629344_2284374200443350549_o  A month ago my Asian Pear tree reminded me that it not only gave me luscious fruit in the fall, but a sense of grace, texture and colour in the spring quite simply by blooming in my backyard.

laying back on my nice soft bed,

window open,

roof over my head, warmth,

I hear slowly an increase in the rattle of wheels down the sidewalk,

a cart needed for a few possession

or perhaps empty,

but waiting for the cans and bottles it can carry for a bite of food,

for a sip of something to soothe the throat.

I lay back on my nice soft bed, window open, outside someone is homeless.

Today walked with an old friend from my midwife days, both she and I have a tendency during the winter to become hermits.  Today we started earlier, despite it still being winter, our attempt to reach out and enjoy one another while also soaking up the delights of the outside world around her house.  I’d say we explore her neighborhood on these walks, but we don’t, we explore one another as we move our bodies through space, weaving our thoughts and emotions in and out, around and through each others heart and mind.  We touch base about family, thoughts and feelings about those we love, about our health and others as we age, about changes we see in this world, both good and bad.  We are blessed in a friendship that has lasted; it has survived us traveling together, as well as an age difference of 12 years. a gap that would break many apart.  Yet some magic, as yet unidentified, a gift of care holds us together as we go through changes in life at different times, stresses and strains that could tear us apart.  But together we walk, enjoying this mild day, and look forward to more walks in these next months as the weather warms and plants push their way through the ground into our line of vision.  Yes, the plants too were hiding like we were from all around during those early winter months.  We are all together again.

An afterthought…

At least we hope we will be able to share in more walks.  One must never take the other for granted.  It is this very possibility that one day the other may not be there that allows us to treasure our gift of friendship  We are blessed…
